This Night

cats eyes

Velvet night
dark brimming cup
a warm vessel,
steamy cauldron
cradling lover’s
kiln fired limbs,
catching sighs,
clothing frailty,
keeping secrets.

A child’s laughter
flung high,
tinkling  bright
in the darkness
like gold coins,
tossed  in sunlight,
turning and tumbling.

A lone hound
broadcasts  warning
a night sentinel
doing duty,
as feline foe
slinks in shadow.

Dream-catcher dark
snares the nightmares,
draws the shadows,
traps all tears
in midnight webbing,
in dark tissue,
in ebony folds,
bright dreams of hope,
kept safe till
day break.
